The title above sounds very harsh right? Yes, I know that myself. But that is the naked truth. Many people in our society have the capacity and power to own their own homes, but due to fear, they would never take the first step to doing this crucial and all important task in a man’s life.
Many are already in the grave without realizing the dream of owning their own home. But the most painful aspect is not that they were able to achieve this dream but that they have all it takes to achieve this but failed because of fear.
Is it a wonder then, when the late Myles Munroe said that the richest place in the world is the grave yard? In fact, I will like to add, by saying that the place with the greatest number of skyscrapers, mansions, breathtaking edifices and captivating architectural masterpieces is not in Dubai, New York City or Texas but also in the grave yard.
Now hear this, it is not necessary that you calculate the entire amount that you need to build your dream crib and then accumulate it in a bank account before you commence the project. Be willing to start with what you have or what you can reasonably save.
There is something many people don’t know about building, but for been a member of SmartBcamp, I will spill that bean for you here.
See, there are only two primary cost centers in building construction. What do I mean by Primary Cost Centers (PCC)? I mean areas or stages in building construction that are capital intensive. Areas that will require that you have the materials, money and manpower at hand before you engage in them.
And these areas are 1. The foundation stage, 2. The roofing stage,( for a bungalow). But if it’s a duplex or a multiple floor building, there is a third PCC area, which is the decking (suspended floor).
Aside these areas, you can take on other stages gradually, according to available funds. At least, I know of a man that anytime he sees N50,000 in his pocket, he would call his mason (bricklayer), get a trip of sand, with the available blocks on his site will ask his mason to raise the walls to wherever the materials could reach.
Once the materials are exhausted, he would go on break. In the process, he gathers more money to be injected into his dream home. This made him focused and disciplined with his spending habit.
So, dear SmartBcamper, are you waiting till you accumulate that millions, or before your business goes international or when your company starts paying you N500,000 per month, before you start that dream home of yours? If yes, well I have a bad news for you. You may never build till you die. Please do not be enlisted among the battalion of those who build mansions in the grave yard.
